NEWS
πŸ—οΈ Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Hathaway CEO After 6 Decades

πŸ—οΈ Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Hathaway CEO After 6 Decades After 60 years at the helm, Warren Buffett is stepping down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway on January 1st. Greg Abel will take over operations, though the Oracle of Omaha says he'll still come to the office. Buffett, who's lived in his Dundee home since 1952, built his empire on finding undervalued businesses and enjoying the journey.

πŸ—οΈ Governor Reinstates Business Innovation Act Funding Governor Jim Pillen has resumed funding for the Business Innovation Act and is requesting a 25% increase to $15 million for next fiscal year. The program, which Pillen had frozen in Q4, generates $11.52 in private capital for every $1 awarded and creates an annual economic impact of nearly $1.2 billion while supporting Nebraska startups and established businesses.

🀝 Bloomfield Seniors Help Six Families Through Salvation Army Program Mary Lou Walker, 91, and her friends at Bloomfield Senior Living adopted six families through the Salvation Army's program, raising funds through a bake sale before shopping for clothes and toys. With an 18% increase in program use this year, these seniors spent over five hours at Kohl's selecting items, even including gifts for single moms.

CITY COUNCIL - WHAT THEY DECIDED LAST WEEK
🏟️ New YMCA & Stadium Coming To North Omaha

🏟️ New YMCA & Stadium Coming To North Omaha
A big shared campus is moving forward near Omaha North High. A new YMCA and upgraded stadium will sit together southwest of 34th Avenue and Ames. Schools, the city, and local partners are teaming up on the project. It should bring better sports, fitness, and gathering spaces for students and neighbors in North Omaha.

🏨 Hotels May Get Tax Money Back For Upgrades
Omaha is setting up a new program that lets some hotels earn back part of the hotel tax they collect. The money can help pay for building upgrades and worker training. A review committee will decide which projects qualify. The goal is to refresh hotel spaces, support jobs, and boost the city’s tourism scene over time.

πŸš‘ Omaha Spends $2.5M To Upgrade Ambulance Gear
The city is investing about 2.5 million dollars in new EMS equipment for Omaha Fire. Crews will get modern stretchers, powered loading systems, and automatic chest compression devices, plus a long-term maintenance plan. This should make patient transport safer, speed up emergency care, and ease the physical strain on first responders during tough calls.

RESTAURANT NEWS
🍽️ What’s Cooking In Omaha’s Restaurant Scene

Omaha’s restaurant and bar scene is staying busy with new openings, big remodels, and a few bittersweet goodbyes. Here’s what’s been happening around town.

  • Foxy Sushi opened its second location inside Brickway Brewery & Distillery at 1116 Jackson Street in the Old Market. Their first spot at 18101 Chicago Street is still going strong, and now you can pair your sushi with Brickway’s new Shiki Lagerβ€”a Japanese-style rice lager brewed in-house. 1116 Jackson Street

  • Hiro 88 officially reopened its Old Market restaurant on December 8 after a planned two-month remodel. Expect a refreshed space and the same sleek atmosphere you know from before the renovation. 1308 Jackson Street

  • NYC Deli & Juice Bar held its grand opening this past Friday, on December 19, in a former KFC building near West Maple Road. The first 1,000 customers enjoyed free sandwiches, and the new spot is blending things up with cold-pressed juices, smoothies, milkshakes, and house-made gelato. 3949 North 132nd Street

  • 13th Street Coffee & Tea quietly closed its doors last month, marking the end of an Old Market favorite that kept locals caffeinated for years. 519 South 13th Street

  • Guitars & Cadillacs is making a comeback to the metro area! The live country music and dance hall will open in March at The Granary in Ralston, taking over the Bushwackers space. Bushwackers is expected to close in January, clearing the way for this nostalgic returnβ€”its original Omaha location closed back in 2003. 7401 Main Street, Ralston

  • Dairy Queen near 114th and West Dodge is getting a major glow-up. Crews have already demolished the second floor of the barn-style building at 404 North 114th Street. When finished, the spot will have a single-story layout, a modernized faΓ§ade, and updated systems throughout. 404 North 114th Street

  • Sonny’sβ€”the charming outdoor bar that serves drinks from a vintage Airstream in Aksarben Villageβ€”is gearing up for a sequel. The Noddle Companies plan to open a second version in the Builders District, near 16th and 17th streets just south of Cuming. If approved, it’ll debut this spring on the area’s new green space and keep the laid-back vibe of the original.
