🗿 Nebraska's '500-mile Sculpture Garden' turns 50
The eight abstract sculptures placed at I-80 rest stops for the 1976 bicentennial once sparked nationwide debate, especially the towering "Erma's Desire." Now the Nebraska Arts Council is planning anniversary events, including a June 30 panel at Lincoln's Sheldon Museum of Art, to mark the collection's 50th year.
🍽️ Quarantined traveler eats his way across Omaha

🏎️ Omaha soap box derby keeps an 88-year tradition rolling

CITY COUNCIL - WHAT THEY DECIDED LAST WEEK
💵 Omaha Wants to Set Its Own Minimum Wage
💵 Omaha Wants to Set Its Own Minimum Wage
Omaha might be getting its own minimum wage law. The City Council introduced rules this week that would set a pay floor for city workers — and crack down on bosses who retaliate. It's already drawing debate, with supporters and opponents both filing written comments. The final vote is June 30. This could be one of the biggest labor moves Omaha has seen in years.
🏗️ Big Changes Coming to the Saddle Creek Corridor
The stretch near California and 46th Streets is about to get a lot busier. The council approved Saddle Creek Marketplace — a five-phase project that will bring 223 apartments and 67,500 square feet of shops to the area. The city is backing it with up to $9 million in tax financing. Not everyone's on board, though. Written opposition was filed before the vote.
⚖️ Omaha Quietly Paid $750,000 to Settle a Lawsuit
The City Council voted 6-1 to pay $750,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by Larry and Demetria Richards against the city. What actually happened? The public record doesn't say. Councilmember Ron Hug cast the lone no vote — also without explaining why on the record. The city made the case disappear for three-quarters of a million dollars, and most Omahans are just now finding out it existed.

Yard House looks poised to bring its first Omaha-area restaurant to the Avenue One district, based on a City of Omaha building permit dated June 3. Knead2Grow has rolled out Omaha's first mobile grocery store. The roving market brings produce, bread, pantry staples and other grocery essentials to customers all across the metro.
Let It Fly Sports Bar West has a new owner. Michael Alan, who recently opened a Let It Fly in Lincoln, snapped up the west Omaha spot and is planning upgrades like comfier bar stools and better booth seating, while the original group hangs onto the downtown location. "Whether you support Nebraska, Creighton, UNO or any other local team, everyone is welcome here," Alan said. 1311 South 203rd Street.
KC Bier Co is now pouring in Nebraska. The independent Kansas City craft brewery specializes in authentic German-style bier, and its cans and draughts are already turning up in Omaha-area bars and restaurants. Nebraska makes the company's third state alongside Missouri and Kansas.
