🛍️ L.L. Bean is coming to West Omaha
West Omaha's retail scene keeps growing. L.L. Bean has signed on to open a 15,000-square-foot store at the new Avenue One development on West Dodge Road, joining Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Barnes & Noble, and West Elm. A second Trader Joe's location may also be in the mix.
💧 Small Nebraska town taps a creek to solve its water problem
After five years of drought restrictions, Auburn is getting a new water source. The SE Nebraska town of about 3,500 is adding Longs Creek to its supply via a new $800K sand filtration system, funded by a modest $10/month bump in residents' water bills.
🐶 Don't leave your dog in the car this summer
As Omaha heats up, Nebraska Humane Society is sounding the alarm on hot car dangers for dogs. On an 85-degree day, a car's interior hits 102°F in just 10 minutes and 120°F in 30. Dogs can suffer fatal heatstroke at 107°F, so leave your pup at home this season.

CITY COUNCIL - WHAT THEY DECIDED LAST WEEK
🎟️ No More Digital Ticket Rip-Offs in Omaha

🎟️ No More Digital Ticket Rip-Offs in Omaha
Tired of paying double for College World Series or Creighton tickets online? The city council moved to close that loophole. A new ordinance updates Omaha's old anti-scalping law to cover digital tickets — not just paper ones. It also caps resale at the original ticket price. No final vote yet, but it's moving forward. Omaha is finally catching up to how tickets actually work in 2026.
⚡ North 24th Street Makeover Approved — With a Twist
North Omaha's historic 24th Street corridor is getting a streetscape upgrade from Ohio Street to Sahler Street. The city got the green light to buy land along the route — and force sales if owners won't negotiate. The vote passed 6-0, but here's the catch: Councilmember LaVonya Goodwin, who represents that very neighborhood, sat out the vote entirely. No explanation given. That silence is worth watching.
🎨 Wine, Art & Coffee Coming to Elkhorn
A cool new hangout is headed to 20603 Elkhorn Drive. Cedar Creek Coffee & Art — part coffee shop, part art collective — just got its liquor license approved by the full council. That means beer and wine will be on the menu alongside lattes and local artwork. Think wine-and-paint nights in one of Omaha's fastest-growing neighborhoods. Doors aren't open yet, but this one's worth keeping an eye on.

RESTAURANT NEWS
What’s Cooking In Omaha’s Restaurant Scene 🍽️
Shiki has taken over the corner spot at 4900 Dodge Street in the Dundee area, previously home to Varsity Sports Café. The menu leans heavily into sashimi, nigiri, and sushi rolls, with a fun twist of global influences ranging from Cajun to Peruvian. Expect small plates, hot Japanese entrees, a curated wine list, and house-made cocktails.
Tasty Pizza is already serving slices at 3001 South 32nd Avenue, moving into a building with some serious culinary history. The space was formerly The Mio and, before that, the beloved Lo Sole Mio for three decades. The pizza spot already has locations on South 60th Street and in downtown Blair.
Bar Blaha is officially open in North Downtown at 721 North 14th Street, sliding into the old Zipline Brewing space next to the Ruth Sokolof Theater. It's locally owned by Oliver Blaha and leans modern-industrial with 24 taps (half of which rotate through craft beers) and a daily open time of 3 p.m.
Cold Stone Creamery is adding a new scoop shop in Bennington at 15602 Whiting Circle, on the southwest corner of 156th and State Street. The ice cream chain already has several metro locations, and this one will join their 1,000+ nationwide.
The Good Life Sports Bar & Grill is gearing up to open a new location at 1501 Mike Fahey Street in the Builders District. The North Downtown spot is working through its liquor license process and interior build-out is underway, with an opening timed to line up with the College World Series. The 7,258 sq. ft. space will include a covered, three-season outdoor seating area. Good Life already has five locations across Omaha, Papillion, and Gretna.
Flower Child is bringing its first Nebraska location to Regency Shopping Center at 120 Regency Parkway, with an opening set for June 30. The 3,969 sq. ft. restaurant will have an open kitchen, a patio, and a custom lemon mural made just for the Omaha spot.
