🏗️ Mutual of Omaha tower hits 677-foot pinnacle — Nebraska's new tallest building

🏗️ Mutual of Omaha tower hits 677-foot pinnacle — Nebraska's new tallest building Omaha has a new skyline centerpiece: the Mutual of Omaha headquarters topped out at 677 feet, making it the tallest building in Nebraska and Iowa. After three years of construction, the tower is expected to open in November 2026 as downtown Omaha's building boom continues.
🎓 University of Nebraska to bring programs to dormant Cabela's campus in Sidney The University of Nebraska will lease space in the former Cabela's corporate headquarters in Sidney — a 450,000-square-foot campus largely vacant since Bass Pro Shops purchased Cabela's in 2017. Plans include academic programs, entrepreneurship support, and applied research for western Nebraska, funded partly by philanthropic commitments.
🎨 Dundee launching a public art trail with $100K Nebraska Arts Council grant The Historic Dundee Creative District is creating five art installations along 50th Street between Dodge and Underwood, funded by a $100,000 Nebraska Arts Council grant. The connected sculptures, benches, and asphalt art tell a progressive story. Free monthly concerts start April 18, with Dundee Day set for August 22.

CITY COUNCIL - WHAT THEY DECIDED LAST WEEK
⚡ Tax Breaks for Developers — But What About Affordable Housing?
⚡ Tax Breaks for Developers — But What About Affordable Housing?
The city council voted 5-0 to explore a new rule: if a developer gets a TIF tax break from Omaha, they may need to include affordable housing in their project. Seven people showed up in support. Three came out against it. Nothing is final yet — the Planning Department has to build the policy first. But this could change how every future big development deal gets done in Omaha.
❓ Omaha Pays a Couple $400K to Drop Their Lawsuit — One Council Member Said No
The city quietly settled a lawsuit with Michael and Lea French for $400,000. The details of what happened were never shared in public. The council approved it 4-1, with Councilmember Ron Hug casting the only "no" vote. The case is now closed. Taxpayers are footing the bill, but we still don't know why. It was added to the agenda just one day before the vote.
🏊 Cryer Park Pool Is Gone — The City Just Approved Tearing It Down
The city approved a $95,120 contract to completely demolish Cryer Park Pool. This isn't a renovation — it's permanent removal. The money comes from the 2022 Parks & Recreation Bond Fund. No replacement pool has been announced. For families in that neighborhood, this is a real loss. One less place to cool off this summer, and no clear plan for what comes next.

RESTAURANT NEWS
What’s Cooking In Omaha’s Restaurant Scene 🍽️
A Taste of New Orleans is putting its food truck up for sale as it shifts focus toward its restaurant and catering operations. The deal is pretty turnkey — it comes with recipes, staff training, and even designated parking spots around Omaha. This Cajun and Creole gem has been serving the city for over 13 years and is based at 6023 Maple Street.
Le Voltaire closed its doors back in mid-March for a remodel, then swung back open on April 1st, just in time to celebrate a big milestone. This year marks the French fine dining spot's 25th anniversary — reason enough for a fresh new look. Stop by at 569 North 155th Plaza in Pepperwood Village.
Benjamin's Neighborhood Kitchen sadly called it quits this past weekend after only a couple of months in business. A note on the front door cited circumstances beyond the owners' control as the reason for the closure. The restaurant had taken over the space at 3623 North 129th Street in Eagle Run Plaza from Copal Mexican Grill.
Stella's Bar & Grill bounced back after a rough February fire at its original spot by setting up shop temporarily at the Bellevue Eagles Club. They're working with a limited menu and cash-only payments while they nail down a more consistent schedule. If you want to grab one of their famous burgers served on a paper napkin, head over to 209 West Mission Avenue.
Flower Child made its Nebraska debut, opening its first location in late June at 120 Regency Parkway on the north side of Regency Shopping Center. The health-focused chain set up shop in the parking lot area near Bonefish Grill and Borsheims.
Clio, the fan-favorite Mediterranean spot from the Old Market, stretched its reach west and opened a new location this past spring inside the former Blatt Beer and Table space. Both restaurants fall under the Omaha-based Flagship Restaurant Group umbrella, making the expansion a pretty natural fit. Check out the new west Omaha outpost at 2835 South 170th Plaza in the Shops of Legacy.
