🚑 Strangers team up to save a life at Memorial Park concert
A man collapsed in cardiac arrest just as the national anthem began at Omaha's Memorial Park concert. A bystander started CPR, two Omaha officers took over compressions, and the crowd cleared a path for medics. In under 10 minutes, teamwork kept him alive. He's now recovering in the ICU.

🐾 Nebraska Humane Society hits its busy summer stretch
Summer brings a big jump in stray animals for the Nebraska Humane Society, which takes in more than 50% more strays than in winter. Staff and volunteers are stretched thin, but adoptions stay strong. One husky named Brunch arrived as a stray and already found a new home.

RESTAURANT NEWS
What’s Cooking In Omaha’s Restaurant Scene 🍽️

Here’s the latest on Omaha’s restaurant scene - openings, moves, and what’s next.

  • Flower Child just cut the ribbon on its very first Nebraska spot earlier this week. This Arizona-born, fast-casual concept is all about fresh, healthy eating, and the new 5,002 sq. ft. location comes with a covered outdoor patio for nice days. 112 Regency Parkway (north side of Regency Shopping Center)

  • Tipico Helado has scooped its way into Gretna, taking over the former Cold Stone Creamery space at Nebraska Crossing. This locally owned Mexican ice cream shop has been around since 2017 and already has spots in South Omaha, the Old Market, near 156th & West Dodge, and in downtown Fremont. Nebraska Crossing, Gretna

  • Kalamata Mediterranean Grill and Bar is aiming to open late this summer in the old Voodoo Taco space at Nebraska Crossing. It's run by John Sgourakis of Paradise Bakery, whose family also owns Greek Islands, so expect the real deal, with a full bar pouring Greek wines, beers, and cocktails. Nebraska Crossing, Gretna

  • Chuck E. Cheese has permanently shut its doors in Heritage Plaza. The arcade-and-pizza chain built for kids' birthday parties is now completely gone from Nebraska, with no locations left anywhere in the state. 225 North 76th Street

  • A new Classic Rock Coffee shop is percolating toward Midtown Crossing. A renovation permit shows it's moving into the former Stories Coffee space. 3201 Farnam Street, Suite 6112

  • Paradise Bakery & Café is now serving up an elevated brunch every single day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Newly hired chef Marco Brito is behind the eight-item menu, which includes chorizo biscuits and gravy plus a lineup of omelets, all while the usual lunch and dinner offerings stick around. Nebraska Crossing

  • Karnali Indian Cuisine has closed for good as of June 28. The restaurant had only been open since January 2025, having set up shop in the former Sebastian's Southern Crab space. 843 North 98th Street, Clocktower Village

  • The Elowen, a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel coming to The Row at Heartwood Preserve, will feature an upscale, Tuscan-inspired chop house called CAMPO as its signature restaurant. Think Italian cuisine, prime Midwestern beef, and a display kitchen with a wood-fired grill, plus a rooftop lounge named Luminary up top. The 6-story, 160-room hotel is slated to open in 2028, southwest of 144th & West Dodge Road.

  • Wingstop celebrated its Council Bluffs location with a ribbon cutting last week. The spot actually opened back in April and marks the chain's 11th location in the Omaha metro. 3120 Manawa Centre (Manawa Power Centre)
