🌿 Jumping worms are invading Nebraska gardens and they're nearly impossible to get rid of
These invasive worms thrash like snakes, leave soil that looks like coffee grounds, and don't need a mate to reproduce. Found in nearly 40 states, they're destroying topsoil and forest floors faster than common earthworms. Experts say prevention is your best tool: clean your gardening tools, buy plants locally, and check for tiny black cocoons in any soil you move.

🍽️ Two Nebraska restaurants are giving formerly incarcerated people a real second chance
Ybor in Lincoln and Ooh De Lally in Omaha's Dundee neighborhood pair culinary training with actual employment for people coming out of the justice system. One participant described it simply: "This is straight love, this is pure unconditional love." Ybor is now opening its first brick-and-mortar location in downtown Lincoln.

🏥 Elkhorn stylist who survived cancer twice opens Nebraska's only post-chemo hair extension salon
Kyleigh Gall lost her hair to chemo at 16, then faced an amputation after a relapse — and channeled it all into ArKYves in Elkhorn, where she's the only stylist in Nebraska offering plant-based post-chemo hair extensions. She's helped four fellow survivors rebuild their confidence in just two weeks since opening.

RESTAURANT NEWS
What’s Cooking In Omaha’s Restaurant Scene 🍽️

Mina Grocery is heading to Countryside Village this summer, setting up shop at 8717 Countryside Plaza between KOJI and Countryside Wellness Studios. They're currently reaching out to Midwest bakeries and restaurants to build out their vendor partnerships, so keep an eye on this one.

Clio brought its Mediterranean flavors west last week, opening a second location on Thursday, May 21 at 2835 South 170th Plaza in the Shops of Legacy. The new spot takes over the Blatt Beer and Table space, and like the original Old Market location, it's under the ownership of Omaha-based Flagship Restaurant Group.

Zaska! Beer Co. is gearing up to debut a taproom in early June at 3548 Center Street in the Field Club neighborhood, sliding into the former Bull Moose space. The brewery has been running a production facility in Seward, Neb., and has been pouring its beers at Junto Wine in Seward in the meantime.

Urban Abbey is on the move -- the beloved nonprofit coffee shop, bookstore, and community church will be trading its current address at 1026 Jackson Street for a new home at 1516 Jones Street in the Old Market. The current location stays open during construction, and the groundbreaking/ribbon-cutting is scheduled for May 31.

Duck Duck Bottle Shop made its official debut last week at 4917 Underwood Avenue in Dundee (a soft opening came first). Think backyard hangout vibes with morning café service, outdoor seating behind a historic house, and a basement bottle shop. Food and drinks come through a concession-style window out back, plus there's a small stage for live performances.

Fiiz Drinks is bringing its "dirty soda" concept to Nebraska for the first time, with signage up and renovations underway at 10215 South 168th Street in Tiburon Pointe, Gretna. The Salt Lake City-based chain -- with 75 locations and counting -- is taking over a former Tropical Smoothie Café space at 2,400 sq. ft.

Shredders Pizza has its sights set on the space formerly occupied by Mootz pizzeria at 8725 Shamrock Road in Countryside Village. No opening date has been announced yet, but work is already happening inside and a liquor license application is in the works.

Sapri Liquor Store at 8524 Park Drive in the Park Drive Shopping Center has a new owner. Dilip Sathu picked up the roughly 3,100 sq. ft. shop last month -- the store has been a neighborhood staple since it first opened back in 2017.
